Donn attributes conspiratorial motives to government officials,
& to industry analysts, without so much
as a single fragment of confirming evidence.

Donn attempts to turn honest improvement in standards
by competent, qualified people into a twisted morality tale...
a Jeff Donn novella with paranoid anti-nuclear flavor.

Donn has every right to oppose nuclear power, should he wish to
but AP's standards of journalistic integrity stand in his way,
as do commonly accepted journalistic standards of honesty
and the avoidance of fantasy, propaganda, or kant.

In the early days of the industry, engineers had no empirical data
with which to refine their calculations, and no heavy
computational power to derive datasets from number crunching.
The workaround was to overbuild, to make somewhat unrealistic
assumptions tending to the ultra conservative, adding in
much more margin than necessary for public safety,
just in case something as yet undiscovered came back to bite them.

55 years later, with mammoth computation power
and copious empirical data at their disposal,
their new, ethical, highly responsible task is to refine the gross
rules of the road imposed on nuclear energy half a century ago
by ignorance, and by the then-primitive state
of nuclear knowledge, and to do so for the benefit of all,
since the bottomless money pit of WWII war spoils and the
1960's baby boom is gone now, and our society must
evermore steward our resources more carefully.

Against this reality of prudent striving, we see the tawdry imaginings
of a self-appointed clairvoyant... a Jeremiah, apparently able to sense
conspiracies that don't exist, and discern interior motives that no one told him,
without a smoking gun, or even a crib note to be found.

Maybe he used a dousing rod, I don't know.
But neither does he, and that's the shame.

Shame for Associated Press, which now must step back,
step down, and take its place with the National Enquirer
and the Police Gazette in the Halls of Amber  Journalism.

AP just got re-tasked as a  hate group propaganda rag.
AP has Mike Oreskes & Jeff Donn to thank for the sex-change.

and the  NEWS  content is what?
"NRC does its job...Nukes keep running" ?

HEY MIKE....HEY JEFF... WE  ALL  KNEW  THAT !
